Terms & License
Filament is published by Bight. These are the terms for using the web app, the desktop app, and the AU/VST3 plugin, plus the license that comes with a paid key. We wrote them to be read - short, plain, and fair. Using or installing Filament means you agree to them.
YOUR KEY IS YOURSLifetime keys never expire, never phone home past activation, and keep working offline at gigs.
14-DAY REFUNDSNot for you? Any paid key, refunded within 14 days of purchase, no interrogation.
NO ACCOUNTS, NO TRACKINGNo sign-up, no analytics beacons, no selling data. We store the minimum needed to make your key work.
YOUR SHOWS ARE YOURSEverything Filament puts on screen at your event is yours to perform, film, and stream. No royalties, ever.
1. The License
When you download, install, or use Filament - free or paid - Bight grants you a personal, non-exclusive license to run it. A paid key extends that license with the features and seat counts of your tier.
- You may use Filament in live performances, streams, videos, clubs, festivals, and installations you run yourself - commercial or not. The visual output of your shows is yours.
- You may install Filament on the number of machines your tier allows, and move seats between machines by deactivating one and activating another.
- You may not resell, sublicense, rent out, or share your key; publish it; or use one key across a team (each performer needs their own, or an Enterprise agreement).
- You may not reverse-engineer the license system, strip the free-tier watermark, or rebrand Filament as your own product. White-label is a thing we offer - ask us.
2. Tiers, Seats & Keys
- Free - core features in your browser, forever. No key, no account.
- Pro - 3 machines, yearly or lifetime. 7-day offline grace: the app checks in when online, and keeps working a week without internet.
- Studio - 10 machines, yearly or lifetime, 30-day offline grace for touring.
- Yearly keys stop unlocking paid features when they lapse - nothing breaks, you just drop back to the free tier until renewed.
- Lifetime keys are one payment, valid for the life of the product, including all updates to the version you bought (v1.x).
- Keep your key private. If a key leaks and is abused we may reissue it for you; keys confirmed to be shared publicly can be revoked.
3. Refunds
Any paid key can be refunded within 14 days of purchase, whatever the reason. Email us from the address you bought with, and the key is deactivated when the refund is issued. After 14 days, we can still help with technical problems - most "it doesn't work" cases are fixable, and we'd rather fix them.
4. Privacy
Filament is built to know as little about you as possible:
- No accounts. Buying a key needs only what the payment processor (Stripe) requires; we receive your email to deliver the key and handle refunds. Stripe's own privacy policy covers the payment itself.
- Activation stores your key, a machine identifier, and a timestamp - that's what "seats" are counted with. Deactivating a seat deletes its machine record.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking pixels in the app or on this site. We don't sell or share data with anyone.
- Audio never leaves your machine. All analysis is local. Presets sync to the cloud only if you use cloud sync, and only preset data is stored.
- To exercise any data right (access, deletion), email us - there's so little stored that this is usually a two-minute job.
5. Safety - Read This One
PHOTOSENSITIVITY WARNING Filament produces intense flashing lights, strobe-like effects, and rapidly changing patterns. A small percentage of people may experience seizures when exposed to certain light patterns, even with no history of epilepsy. If you or anyone viewing experiences dizziness, altered vision, twitching, or disorientation - stop immediately. When performing to an audience, you are responsible for appropriate venue warnings.
Blitz mode in particular switches visuals rapidly and is intended for drops and peak moments, not continuous use toward an audience.
6. Lasers, DMX & Hardware
YOU are the operator. Filament generates control signals; what your hardware does with them is your responsibility.
- Lasers are regulated devices. In most jurisdictions, audience-scanning and public laser display require certified operators, variances, or permits (e.g. FDA/CDRH in the US, local regulations elsewhere). Filament's built-in safety zones and scan-rate limits are aids, not a substitute for legal compliance or a trained operator.
- Never point laser output at people, aircraft, or vehicles except within a legally compliant, professionally configured audience-scanning setup.
- DMX fixtures (strobes, moving heads, pyro interfaces) must be configured and rigged by someone competent to do so. Test with output disabled first.
- Bight is not liable for injury, damage, or legal consequences arising from hardware controlled through Filament.
7. Warranty & Liability
Filament is provided "as is". We work hard to make it stable on reasonable hardware, but we can't guarantee it is defect-free or fit for a particular purpose, and live-show software runs in hostile conditions - always soundcheck your rig.
To the maximum extent the law allows, Bight's total liability for any claim related to Filament is capped at the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect damages - lost bookings, lost data, or a crowd that didn't dance. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limits; where that's you, these limits apply to the extent permitted.
8. Enterprise & White-Label
Installations, large-scale events, multi-seat teams, custom animations, and white-label builds run under a separate written agreement with their own terms and pricing. Start the conversation.
9. Changes & The Boring Bits
- We may update these terms; the version and date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted on this page. Your purchase is governed by the terms at the time you bought.
- If one clause is found unenforceable, the rest still stand.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Questions about anything here: just ask.
